The trio of Indian nationalists was Lal, Bal and Pal. In about 1905 they became active in the Swadeshi Movement appealing the public to denounce British goods. Lal was the name of Lala Lajpat Rai, Bal was Balgangadhar Tilak and Pal was Bipin Chandra Pal.

Both the freedom fighters Bipin Chandra Pal and Lala Lajpat Rai started journals in 1906 by the same name Vande Mataram independently at two different parts of the country. Pal started the Bengali journal in Bengal while Lala Lajpat Rai started it in Urdu in Lahore.
